Lake Huron 12.0 Habitat

Protect and enhance fish habitat and rehabilitate degraded habitats. Achieve no net loss of the productive capacity of habitat supporting Lake Huron fish communities and restore damaged habitats.
Several collaborative habitat improvement projects were implemented or completed over the reporting period. These projects have the potential to directly benefit populations of desired native species, such as lake trout, lake whitefish, walleye, ciscoes, and others, in support of achieving other FCOs.
Support the reduction or elimination of contaminants.
Efforts to reduce or remove contaminants during the reporting period have reduced the number of beneficial use impairments around the lake to the benefit of native species and the users as evidenced as declining concentrations of toxins in lake trout. Continued support for these efforts is essential for restoration efforts and associated human benefit.
